What does the term Street Smart mean?
Be aware of your surroundings.
Ask yourself is this a safe place to be?
Could you get help quickly if you needed it?
What about when you are going from one place
to another walking or even riding a bicycle or skate board?
Look confident and in control.
Keep eyes and head up .. be aware.
Look like you know where you are going
Walk on main streets whenever possible.
Walk with a group when possible.
Are there any places that are best to avoid?
Avoid alleys, shortcuts and places where you can't be seen.
Avoid going places alone when possible.
What if someone approaches your kids, what should they do?
Keep walking and don't answer them.
Use a pay phone by dialing “911” or “0”.
Family should know where you are.
Use the buddy system when away from home.
What kinds of things should a parent discuss with their kids about being
Street Smart?
Where they can go to be safe when feeling scared.
Change directions if being followed by a car,
