Daylight hours are shorter.

Kids are not as visible when playing or walking outside.

Kids and parents tend to be focusing more on keeping warm than what is going on around them.

Predators pay more attention to kids than keeping warm.

  • Stay away from curbs when walking.
  • Walk with friends.
  • Kids should tell parents where they are going and how long they will be there.
  • Don’t change the route they tell parents they are going to use to get there.
  • Carry a small pocket size flashlight for emergencies.

  • Stay Away from rest rooms when playing!
  • When going to the restroom try to have someone go with you.
  • Use parks and playgrounds to play in, not alleys or vacant lots.
  • Try to play in a group, with friends You're safer in a group than you are by yourself.
  • Indoor activities are usually better during the winter because it gets dark so early.

  • Be more aware of their activities, who they are with and where they are going.
  • Pay attention to any adults showing unusual interest in them.
  • Don’t be afraid to talk to your kids about who they spend time with or who wants to spend time with them.
  • Building an honest and respectful communication with your kids is vital to their safety and your emotional well-being.
