Build a loving, trusting relationship with their kids.
Listen to them, talk to them about the fact that if anyone ever does anything that makes them afraid, sad, ashamed or uneasy that it's ok to tell.

Parents need to make sure their kids know they will believe them if they come and tell them anything.

It is imparative that children of all ages understand that if something like this happens to them, its never their fault.

Teach them to get away from the situation as quickly as possible, tell them, NO! to any unwanted attempts at inappropriate behavior and immediately go and tell an adult they trust.
